The current Captain of Gethaman's Guard, Golden Stag, is of icewalker descent (which is clearly recognizable by his facial features), abandoned by his tribe as a child due to ill omens, picked up by a passing caravan, and then adopted by a poor Gethamane family. He has worked his way up from the ranks and mentions this every second sentence.
Although he is in his 50s, he views this as the prime of his life and is unsympathetic to any suggestions that he should be training a successor. Golden Stag is a good leader of men, and the Guard respects him. He has a high level of sympathy with the hunters and gatherers, owing to his ancestry, and, often, the Guard and the hunters and gatherers form a voting bloc in the Council.
